If you are a true coffee fan, then there are a number of things you should know about the processing and storage of coffee. First of all, storing fresh coffee in the freezer is not the way you would want to go. The moisture and oxygen in there will certainly prove detrimental to the coffee beans. Light and heat will also adversely affect the coffee that you want to remain fresh.

When you take the coffee beans out of the freezer, condensation will form on them, and the excess moisture will make your prized fresh beans to go stale in a very short time. While in the freezer, the beans will also tend to take up, by absorption, the smell of the foods that are placed close to them.

A good way of keeping your beans fresh is to store them in nitrogen-flushed bags designed for coffee bean storage. These bags normally come fitted with one way valves that help to preserve the beans for as long as possible. The beans will be kept dry and free of oxygen for as long as possible before the bag is opened. And don’t worry about the nitrogen harming your coffee beans. This will not happen, because the gas is inert.

If you don’t have access to nitrogen flushed bag, then you can store your coffee beans in a simple air-tight bag. You can also make sure you squeeze the bag out to rid it of air before you put the beans in it.

As you may know, it is actually best to store your coffee in a dark, cool and dry place. The freezer does not qualify as a good storage place for your coffee beans. When you are storing your coffee beans, always remember that the main enemies towards the long lasting of your coffee beans are heat, light, moisture and oxygen. Any of them will work towards your coffee beans going stale.

If you prefer to roast the coffee beans yourself, there is quite a lot of information you have to know before you start. If you don’t follow some guidelines, the results will be less than satisfactory. And the process is a kind of specialty, you have to really know what you are doing if you want good results. The equipment you will need to roast the coffee beans properly also costs a lot of money. With all this, it is best to just leave the roasting to the professionals, who will make you a very good cup of coffee.

Even if your cooking skills are below average, then you can still grind your own fresh coffee. The machines are not as expensive as the roasters, and they’re also not as hard to clean as the roasters are. However, the grinding is bound to break the skin of the beans, and this may lead to an oil spoilage problem. This means that you have to use your grinding machine a lot more often.

Enjoy your fresh coffee.
